Water which enters Amoeba sp. fills the contractile vacuole to a maximum size.
(d) What is the function of A and F in the diagram?
A: Responsible for locomotion and feeds
F: Responsible for digestion
(e) State the different between binary fission and forms spores.
In a favourable environment where food is abundant, Amoeba sp. reproduces by binary fission. Where food is scarce and the condition is dry, Amoeba sp. forms spores.
(f) Name the parts labeled A, B, C and D
A: Pseudopodium
B: Endoplasm
C: Plasma membrane
D: Contractile vacuole
(g) With the help of diagram 2, describe how Amoeba sp. feeds.
Amoeba sp. Feeds by phagocytosis. Two pseudopodia are formed to engulf food particles contained in a food vacuole. The food vacuole fuses with a lysosome.The food particles are digested by the enzymes contained in the lysosome. The nutrients are absorbed into the cytoplasm and assimilated.
